Space, glorious space!
It is done!! It is finished!!! I have my studio!!!!
It was a fantastic weekend sorting out all of my sewing gear from it's various homes around my house and placing it all into its new home!! I LOVE my new studio and am already feeling completely at home in it! It has a really peaceful feel and I think it has become my favourite room in the house!! (OK, maybe I am going a bit far, but do you get the idea that I LOVE MY NEW STUDIO!!!)
On Sunday I did my first sewing in the new studio as I needed to make a couple of new cushions to brighten up the room...
They were made just in time for the photo shoot to share with you before the room becomes an organised mess!
The cushions are for on the new sofa bed that is now my stuffing/hand sewing home. Of course this will have to double as an actual bed when guests come to stay - there had to be a catch, didn't there??!!
The walls in this room were already pink and aqua as it was, in a past life, Baby Floss' nursery. I love pink and aqua together so much so I decided to stick with it and work with it! A pink sofa is always fun - thanks Ikea!
And off to the more practical side of the room..... here is my new best friend in the form of shelving that Rosie told me I just had to get. She was right - it is perfect for holding everything!!
And it is conveniently located next to my desk so that I can grab things as they are needed! It is such a smooth way to work compared to going from this room to that to grab a scrap of fabric etc and I actually know where everything is - woo-hoo!
And then the corner that I am not too keen on. Handy but ugly.... yes, that is an old TV set sitting in the corner. I will admit I don't mind the odd Oprah fix while stuffing. It kind of ruins the feel of the room but hey, it is in there so I thought I ought to show i
t!
As you can see I do have a couple of prints gracing my wall but I am in need of more wall decoration. I would like this wall to be full of inspiration to look at as I work....I will need to work on that. I have a birthday coming up so I think I know what to ask for. Don't you wish you could buy Etsy gift vouchers???
Hope you have enjoyed the tour of my new studio - it may be the last glimpse of it in such a lovely state!! Now I need to get back into it and do some more work............ =) =) =)
Melly.

Your new Studio is fantastic but what's really catching my eye is that darling hedgehog that's front and center. Is that a new pattern? One of yours? I don't remember ever seeing it before. Really, really cute!

Hi Mel!
Your room looks fantastic; and being a bloke, I am not going to make any suggestions... it's perfect how it is (would I take a inter-gender advice on my shed? I don't think so). I reckon what you and Rosie have done with your business is amazing, and I give you both major props... do what you love, and "if you build it, they will come" (from the Book of Costner, Ch.3 Vs.45). Have fun in your new space!

Thank goodness for IKEA! They make a studio really work. I have a few pieces in mine too. My studio used to be my living room. But who needs that! Congratulations to you! Have fun and YES, HAPPY CREATING!!

melly this looks fab! I have sewing room envy.
Sadly the only thing that could remotely resemble a sewing room for me is a small brick shed in my back garden, and it's full of spiders and gardening tools so I think I'll have to stick to the dining table for a while longer.

The studio looks great and so organized! I love it. I love having a place for everything. Can't they get you a paypal gift certificate for your birthday? Do they have those? You can always make some of these for your wall...

What a lovely studio, Melly! You'll have very happy sewing times there I'm sure. And I have my eye on some very similar shelves - so thank you for the pic as I can now show DH exactly what I have in mind!

YAY! Congrats, Melly, it looks so lovely and cozy! I like the pink and teal too. :) I think the only thing missing is a pretty Rosie-made quilt hanging on the wall! ;)

Melly, your room looks just perfect - the colours and especially how tidy it is. (I'd like to see an after shot though, too)

The Expedit shelves from IKEA are great. I bough two when I set up my sewing space. I love the comparents. I helps me pretend that I'm organize.

Oh Mel, it look glorious. So neat and tidy. A clean platter for you to start your next project. Just beautiful. I'm looking for an old caravan to put in the back of my house and live out there in my sewing room???

Well done Mel!! How nice is it to have your own sewing space. I just love my work studio nestled down in the garden that hubby built for me, although I do have to share it with all my students buuut who's complaining. A girl needs her creative space hey! leave all your work in prgress out and shut the door. No more packing away or stepping on pins. LOL Enjoy!!

Lovely room and the IKEA is perfect for your needs. So you shared with Rosie as a child? You have never had a room to yourself?
I do find it hard to not have a sewing/workroom of my own...just got started sewing tonight in my sewing corner of our bedroom and my husband came in to have a private phone call with work so out I went!!! Also have to take everything through each night when he goes to bed. I work through into the small hours as I have insomnia so it means I am messing up two rooms each day!! Might be why I go off sewing for weeks at a time. Space is always a problem for city dwellers...the access to coffee shops and galleries etc is the tradeoff I guess.Love your colours ...the sofa cushions everything..are those photos on flickr cause I have started up three groups and one of them is called fabric, patchwork and quilting in the home and your photos would look stunning there.
Great work and happy sewing!
