Studio Excitement
It has been 2 years now that I have been designing as a business and have been using my sewing machine most days of the week..... It has been 2 years now that my husband has been saying "I wish we could eat on the dining table!!" Hmmmm, has it been 2 years that my sewing machine, cutting board, current projects, stuffing, sketches, pins, threads and other sewing paraphernalia has been taking up the whole dining table????!!! Goodness me, I think is has!!!
I have finally decided that the flossies do not need a whole room to house their toys, they can easily transfer that mess to their bedrooms while I make a much more pretty mess in my new studio! Yes, there will be no more mad clean up of my current sewing project before hubby gets home from work, no mad rush to clear the dining table and stuff all of my sewing gear into some unseeable corner when we have guests, no need for a dining room vacuum every day due to threads galore.....ahhhhhhh.....I will have my own lockable, messy studio! I am sooooo excited.
I know that it will be very untidy in no time but at this stage, before it is a reality, I like to imagine my picture book perfect studio which I can show you photos of to the sounds of "WOW, how do you keep it so clean??" and "How beautiful and inspiring!!" So while in my fantasy land I have been buying up a few goodies to decorate my new haven! Here are a few cuties I picked up while at the "Stitches and Craft Show" a few weeks ago.
For a minute I tried to pretend that I was buying these toys for my kiddies, but I knew in myself that they were for me in my new studio! Aren't they all gorgeous? The doll comes from AK Traditions and is just the most divine thing I have ever seen! I am sure that these new friends will bring me lots of inspiration as I look at them each day. I know I have said it already, but I really am just so excited! It is the first time ever that I will have a room all to myself, to decorate as I like and to fill with whatever I wish - a true Melly hangout where I can do what I love surrounded by things that I love! Yay!!
Now, while I go on about my studio excitement I know you are all saying "yeah, that's great, but what about the giveaway?" So I suppose I should stop my ramblings and get down to business! Today we decided to draw 4 winners to each select one of the three new patterns as their prize. So with the help of our random number generator the lucky winners are....... Kate, Jacquie, Paula (April 1 11:07pm) and Jenny (April 01 05:59pm). CONGRATS!!!! Please email us girls and let us know your choice of pattern and snail mail addresses!
Thank you all for your beautiful comments on the new designs as well as for the emails you have been sending about your great swap experiences - it sounds like there have been some really amazing swap packages being received. I can't wait to receive mine! Melly.

Oh your own room Melly. You are so lucky. I sort of have my own craft room. But I have to share it with my 8 year old daughter who seems to be growing up a craftaholic too. So needless to say we are lucky if we can get in to it as it is usually such a mess (and not very big anyway). But as you said it is great not to have to clear the dining table every night. Cant wait to see how you decorate it. Have fun

Oh my...I won! Thank you so much! I can hardly speak. Fido would be my choice of pattern. I tried to email you my address, but the email link won't work for me. Help! Can you contact me through my blog?
Congrats on the new studio. Can't wait to see it.

Lucky Melly! I am so excited for you.
I have been eyeing off those dolls from AK traditions - good on you for giving in and buying one for yourself. Maybe I will next time.

Enjoy your new creative space! I am lucky to have a sewing cum guset room that is all mine for 50 weeks of the year. Alas my in-laws are arriving new week so I have to find new homes for my ever increasing sewing and quilting supplies so they will be able to make their way to the bed!

Congrats on the new space - and for deciding to give yourself a space! You certainly do deserve it - more room for your lovely designs to grow...and grow...and grow! Be sure to take pictures and post, please - I love seeing artist crafters' studios! :)

I am so jealous!!! Currently my sewing stuff is in our spare room. On the weekends when my husband works from home, my sewing machine goes away to make way for the computer, and when we have guests (very often, as we recently moved interstate), the whole room gets packed up to make room for the double futon. I am dreaming of the day when we will have the space for a dedicated "sewing room".

A studio to yourself. Congratulations! That is also one of my dreams. It was funny reading your description of clearing the fabric away before dinner. Yes, that is exactly how it is done in this house. Sewing on the dining room table, ironing and cutting on the kitchen top. Assembling quilts on the living room floor. And with two kittens wanting to play along. One day - a studio of my own...

I can't wait to see your new studio and it sounds like your husband can't wait to see the dining table!!
I love the AK doll - I may have to work out how to get one for my friend's little girl!!

How exciting to have your very own studio! I am green with envy over here (and I think Mr Locket probably is too as the family have to share the dining room end of our living room with me and "my stuff" - although I do have my own sewing table now!)
Can't wait to see photos of it!

Congrats on the new studio! It will be wonderful not to have to clean up after yourself if you don't want to!

Oooh congratulations on your sewing room!!!! I can still only aspire to such loveliness and, as a mother who likes her tribe to eat at the table, I do get a bit sick of having to clear up every day!
Can't wait to see those studio shots :)
Congrats to the lucky giveaway winners too!!

Congratulations on the new studio - when we moved to this house I quickly "staked a claim" on a room upstairs as my sewing room...it has the best light and outlook of the upstairs rooms and I love it...those dolls look great - is that a hedgehog?? I will have to definately buy the "ruggie" pattern - have just found out there is another grandie on the way!! How exciting! I am looking forward to my swap parcels arriving..I accidentally registered twice! oops... had lots of fun putting together my packages to send - will post piccies when they are received...and of mine when I get them...first swap I have entered - I think very carefully about entering swaps as I wouldn't want to let anyone down if I couldn't participate for some reason. Enjoy that new studio!

Ohh, Lucky you Melly! We have more kids than space so its the dining table for a long time for me - luckily we have a big dining table x Rachel

Oh, how wonderful to have your own studio! It would be lovely if you show us some more pics as you go along, and we primise not to mind if you only show the pretty ones ;-)
I am a dining room table person too, only our dining room and living room are all in one so I have to put everything away every evening - well, OK, I have to take the machine down and pile up fabric on the chair, but still!

One's own space in which to create--a true blessing and sanity keep for a household--LOL! And of course your work room must have toys of all sorts--even softies! ;o) Happy Days in your new studio ((HUGS))

You lucky girl with the new sewing room (boo hoo I don't have one)! I love the doll you bought from the Fair - I had to stop myself from getting one! Just spent way too much I'm afraid! Enjoy your new room and hope the flossies don't mind being 'kicked out' of their toy room! Thanks for picking me as a winner too!!!!
