My name is Melanie Hurlston, and I am a fabricoholic!
Yes, I have way too much fabric and I know that I never could and never will use it all. One of the habits of being a fabricoholic is going to Sample Spree at Houston Quilt Market and just grabbing multiple random fat quarter bundles without knowing what you are even buying.... Part of the fun is bringing them back to your hotel room and opening them up to see what they are, almost like a lucky dip!
I do give my stash a good clean out every 6 months and give a large chunk to local charities which is a double win, getting to buy it in the first place and then getting to give it away to be used for a good cause. My stash is getting to the point again that it needs a good cull. I find that when I have too much it overwhelms me and I cant see the forrest for the trees. So that is a task to add to the "to do" list for the next week. While I was contemplating this yesterday I spied this gorgeous fat quarter bundle that I purchased last market just begging to be used. The colors are amazing and so tantalizing, but I know with the deadlines I have for the next 6 months, these 40 fat quarters will not be used by me until they are no longer available in stores. The rage is called "Botany" by Lauren & Jessi Jung for Moda - you can see more of it here on their blog. So I figure, what about a giveaway??!! I really want to see these fabrics put to great use by someone who really appreciates them, rather than just gathering dust while I work on other projects.
Instead of just a standard "leave a comment" giveaway, I would love you to leave a comment letting me know how you would use this bundle if you were to win. Perhaps a link to a design you want to make with it or any other idea you have that you can tell me about. Then in a week's time I will choose my favorite idea as the winner..Until then, I will try my hardest to resist the urge to add to the stash until I have given it a good clearing and will get back to being lost in this box trying to decide on the threads to use for the next retreat project....
And, yes, my threads box is a disorganised mess!!!!
Melly.

oooh I made a little Sangsang dollie for our babysitter's foster child last week and she was so cute, I want to make more! I know those FQ's will make LOTS of dollies...maybe a couple of patchy skirts for my own little sweeties as well!

How about a quilt made from dresden plates on white with alternate blocks of white squares bordered with small squares?
lovely range of fabrics...

Ooohhhh .... a string quilt for my month in my quilting bee!!!!!!

Oh those colours are devine!!!
Easy - My littlest girl has just been put out of her BELOVED teeny tiny blue room because her daddy is heading back to uni and needs a study.
She's not so happy about it, and is very sad in her little heart.
I would use these fabrics to make bed runners for both the girls (blue for the little one of course), pillows and some softies so that she feels like the shared room is hers too.

I would LOVE to make a few of the quilts out of the "Material Obsession: Modern Quilts with Traditional Roots" book. Thanks for the opportunity to win these great fabrics!

I would love to use this bundle in a paintbox quilt...mixed with plain white. This would show off each gorgeous piece of fabric so beautifully. With the scraps I think I would have to create a few of my favourite things...lovely stuffed birds, with felt wings and hand stitched details, a few handy zipped pouchs for friends, and probably a sweet softie or two...

I have decided that 2010 is to be my year for giving handmade gifts for birthdays and hopefully Christmas as well. I have already made a start by making some rag quilts for picnic rugs and I would love to make some more. The hardest thing is choosing the fabric, I find I doubt myself in this department before I even start - but you already done that for me! Thanks for the giveaway.

Oh I LOVE that line!!! I see stripwork skirts and a super cute patchwork dress for my littler Ree!

Not entering the giveaway because I probably wouldn't use it either! I just wanted to ask...where oh where did you get the Cosmo embroidery floss? I've read such great things about it, but it seems to be hard to find.

I just found your blog and your patterns! So juicy and fun! I am in love with the Melly & Me Raspberry Ripple bag. I think that the moda fabric would look awesome with it. I would like to use it to applique some woodsey birds, trees and shapes. What a present that would be... FABRIC!!!

Ohh Melly, that it so generous!
I would love to make a quilt for my little girl with those fabrics.
She has 3 older brothers who all have quilts and so far she has missed out.Its so sweet to walk into a room and see her snuggled in her big brothers quilt with only her face poking out :) As for the pattern.... well I think i'd like to have a go at making my own.

Oh my goodness! This fabric line was on my list as one of the possibilities for the Snowbound BOM by Anne Sutton. I still haven't made up my mind what to use, even though it's almost time for the third block to be released. If I won, the decision would be made ☺

Hi Melly ! My eldest is turning 18 this year and I have been planning to make her a birthday quilt - as I haven't made her one since I was pregnant with her!. ( bad mother I know - but she does snuggle under the house ones!). Those colours would suit her perfectly. Don't know about the design- but something bold and modern. The leftover fabric i would make into pretty baby quilts for the baby baskets we put together at church.

I have pretty modest aspirations...
I'm really only just beginning my sewing odyssey, and as such, have, um, approx 4 solid colour fat quarters to work with!
I've challenged myself to make some small zippered purses and cute pincushions, but they just don't look the same without cute fabric! So that's what I'd do with those FQ's, finally make good use of my little sewing machine, and be able to marvel at the colourful results!

I would make Little dresses for Africa as soon as I get back home:

My sister in law is turning 40 in June, I am going to make a quilt for her - these fabrics would be perfect. I'm thinking simple squares with white sashing - don't want to cut the lovely fabric up too much :)

Melly that fabric is yummy. I would use the bundle for my small creatures great and small...I had done some stitcheries for it but used whisperweft for the backing and it seems to have puckered, so looks like I will have to redo them but with weaveline this time.

I am drooling over that stack of gorgeous fabric! I think I would make A La Mode by Thimble Blossoms.
Posted by: Trisha | February 24, 2010 at 03:07 PM
Ooooh, so lovely! I am pretty sure I NEED those fat quarters to make a pretty quilt for my as yet unborn little girl (hurry up baby)!
Posted by: Jess | February 24, 2010 at 03:12 PM
I'm drooling already and have about 20 projects running through my head. My aim this year is to challenge myself and improve my sewing. I would love to try the Patchwork Circle Skirt from Indietutes for my daughter. I wouldn't be able to resist making a bag and at least one softie as well.

Oh Melly, eeeekkkk!!!! What a AWESOME giveaway! I'd love to be let loose at the Houston Quilt Market Sample Spree, it would be every fabric addicts dream come true.
If I was lucky enough to win this gorgeous FQ bundle I would use it to make a Popsicles Posies quilt. http://www.americanjane.com/products/AJP228.jpg
I adore this pattern and think this fabric would be just perfect for it.
I'm also in a couple of quilting bees, and have been struggling with what fabric I would send to the other participants for my month, this fabric would be ideal! I'd cut up little bundles and send them out to all the talented ladies in the 1st Wednesday Block Swap [http://www.flickr.com/groups/1wbs/pool/], and let them work their magic.
I've got my fingers, toes and eyes crossed, it would be soooooo exciting to win.
Thanks for sharing the fabric love.
Hugs
Kelly :-)

Hi there
I am in the process of auditionung fabric to complete a T-shirt memory quilt for my nephew who lost his wife to CF. "Botany" would be a wonderful pallet for this project.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Cheers
